When saying Niigata Uonuma city, "Koshihikari made in Uonuma" is famous, isn't it?

But Uonuma city isn't only Koshihikari! A fun tourist spot, an attractive event, Onsen and good sweets....

I meet! Uonuma city is also an attractive place as "tourist spot"!

The event I want to see by all means in this winter at Uonuma in particular, "Hyakuhatto (HYUKUHATTOU)".

Night with the straw fire surfaced in an snow-white snow-covered mountain and fantastic which kindles in deep red (bracken) can be sensed.

I'll introduce a winter festival "Hyakuhatto", the Onsen I'd like to enjoy all together and sweets sightseeing this time.

A white snow-covered mountain burns with deep red! Unique festival of Uonuma city "Hyakuhatto (HYUKUHATTOU)"

"Hyakuhatto" (HYUKUHATTOU) is a festival of Uonuma city and the Oritate spa ward. Surprisingly, it continues from the Edo Period early stage (first of the Kanei year)!

Unique festival of Echigo who prays to this performed festival for perfect state of health and productiveness of grains in 1st Sunday of March and does every year.

Hyakuhatto is the festival which prays to "Inari Daimyojin Shrine" of important work God (Jin who defends rice growing) (God about rice) for a good harvest for a farmhouse.

Satoyama where it's in the Oritate spa ward to become a stage.

You shoulder, and how many bunches of rice straw do you also go up for peak from Yashiro of the gods of the harvest where men are inside Nitchu in the base in a mountain?

1 person will carry 2 or 3 round trip, line straw of "108" along a ridge and arrange. So it's the name as "Hyakuhatto", isn't it?

I wait for night and ignite. The mountains of snow-white Yuki who appears in the light of the straw fire which kindles in deep red.

Hashed of the Hyakuhatto is chorused in the fantastic atmosphere.

"HYUKU, oh, by rice of investigated HYUKUHATTOU one hundred, by Itto five measure and ten sentence liquor, sixteen PAI sixteen PAI"

One hundred is one sen, and ten sentence is this hashed inside in case of ichirin, and it's possible to measure and know prices of the Edo Period.

More Kamakura and snow miseenscenes are installed in a festival square, and a song show is performed.

Also enjoy the rice cake's, the soba's, the pork miso soup's, the local brand of sake's and the sweet drink made from fermented rice's tired with Oritate local specialty" with 6 people" being stood.

The luxurious fireworks closed at the end of an event are also attraction.

The area where Oritate Onsen is buried in several months during winter and snowfall. A festival of the Hyakuhatto performed at the beginning of March hands a visit in spring down to local people.

I'll introduce a spa convenient for access from a festival meeting place of Hyakuhatto.

 

1. Oritate (Get off.) Onsen

A Hyakuhatto festival is a hot spring in a held Oritate area.

Quiet hot spring in a mountain where inn equals a riverside. It's possible to go to the meeting place on foot from both inns, and it's good location.

2. Oyu Onsen

It's deified and the "Oyu hot spring" where it's in the distance between about 5 minutes by car from a meeting place is also recommended!

It depends on Gyoki (the Japanese Buddhist priest who came into action from the Asuka period to Nara era) in A.D. 718, kaiyu. It's the spa which represents Uonuma loved from many generals in warlike ages.

If winter Uonuma city was visited hard, when saying the spot I'd like to do by all means, it is... "Saifuku-ji Temple"!

There is Kaizando (the hall where a founder is deifying a chief priest) in "Saifuku-ji Temple", and it's an excellent work of Unchou Ishikawa in the Kaizando inside and outside of the country!

Unchou Ishikawa is the relief teacher of a legend who played an active part in the end of Edo period . It's also called "Japanese Michelangelo" from the capacity in which I excel.

HA which wants to see in particular and the big sculpture given to the ceiling Mima square surface in the Kaizando "figure of the Dougen Znji fierce tiger exorcisation".

 

Unchou Ishikawa work of Saifuku-ji Temple

Delicacy of the openwork and all colored vividness are moving the person who sees deeply.

The wood plug Unchou did also exists in a painting on fusuma "figure of the peacock playing", a study sliding paper door "Miho no matsubara" and the floor which is a main hall large hallway again a lot besides this masterpiece.

When I say Uonuma city,..., as expected, Koshihikari!

There is much sweets with Koshihikari made in Uonuma by Uonuma city, and it's also popular as souvenir.

The store which has complete set of the sweets recommended to souvenir, I'll introduce 5.

 

(1) the assortment colorful from sweets to rice! "Road station Yunotani Miyuki no Sato"

Rice, liquor and sweets often have a large selection of local specialty of Uonuma abundant nature produces.

(2) manufacturing store of good rice cake with water and Japanese confection from Uonuma "Yunotani Tezukurimura"

Sale of souvenir items of the rice, the liquor, the Buckweat and the sweets which are also local Uonuma city and local product of Niigata.
It uses 100 % of raw material rice including rice cake and is particular about the process with which the kind between rice isn't mixed by KO where a raw material is made in Uonuma.

(3) Sweet Potato Paste Wrapped with Flour Dough of hand picking mugwort made in done Uonuma, local specialty "Niigata Hontakasagoya"

The Niigata Hontakasagoya to which the Japanese Sweets which stuck to the material of Niigata and Uonuma is being sold. It smells and origin of adzuki beans is using super-soft water with the outstanding flavor for the "water" which becomes a basis of snack making, I'm particular, YOU.

(4) "Uonuma KORUNE" but popularity! "Patisserie KANSENDO Yunotani store"

The popular tuckshop where the person who doesn't know in the Uonuma city isn't here "Patisserie KANSENDO".
When I eat once, Uonuma KORUNE where the pie fabric which is crisply is filled with thick custard much is the popular goods captivated.
Of Koshihikari rice flour use made in Uonuma, a package also seems pretty and "circle of rice" is recommended to souvenir.

(5) interactive Facilities of fermented food "Uonuma Jozo"

The "Uonuma Jozo" which produces "Koji Amazake" and "malted rice in the US" with thaw water of Echigo-sanzan. There are a cafe and a workshop where a soft ice cream of homemade Koji sweet drink made from fermented rice and Koji sweet drink made from fermented rice can be enjoyed, and it's the interactive Facilities which can be learned about fermented food.
(A factory tour needs reservation.)
Souvenir items such as Koji Amazake and Koji sweets of Hironobu Tsujiguchi supervision are also even.

I'll introduce the recommendation plan which can be enjoyed in 1 night and 2 days from Kanto district from here.

< the 1st day>

I arrive at Urasa Station by 1.JR Joetsu Shinkansen (departing at Tokyo Station 10:15) (11:42).

I change trains to 2.JR Joetsu Line and move to Koide Station (departing at Urasa Station 11:55 and Koide Station Arriving at 12:00 for 03 minutes).

3. At a noble and wealthy bower in front of the Koide Station (butterbur Tei), lunch!

4. A taxi is used in front of the Koide Station, and it's to work enjoyment of Unchou Ishikawa.

* It's a taxi from Koide Station to Saifuku-ji Temple, one way for about 15 minutes

* It's a taxi from Koide Station to Eirin-ji Temple, one way for about 15 minutes (or, from Echigo-Horinouchi Station, one way for about 8 minutes)

5. I move from Koide Station to a Oritate hot spring in a southern Echigo sightseeing bus. (The Tochiomata Onsen line. 15:20 from the Koide Station and Oritate Onsen bus stop getting off 15:42)

6. I check in at an inn in a Oritate hot spring.

7. I move to a festival meeting place of "Hyakuhatto" in walking. A festival is visited. ※ A schedule is reference of an ordinary year.

Around 19 o'clock: Night stall starting

19:30: Hyakuhatto ignition

19:45: Subrosa song

Around 20 o'clock: Pyrotechnics

 

 

 

< the 2nd day>

I check out from 1.9 o'clock and around 15 minutes and an inn.

2. I move to "road station Yunotani" in Yunotani area shuttle taxi (I make a reservation before an important matter. For details, here). All kinds' souvenir in Uonuma area is bought.

3. I move by taxi (usually) (about 15 minutes).

4. Uonuma Jozo is visited.

The factory which produces "Koji Amazake" and "malted rice in the US" with thaw water of Echigo-sanzan.

You can eat sweets by Uonuma Koji salon and buy souvenir.

5. I move to Urasa Station by taxi (about 5 minutes).

6. It's in way home in Joetsu Shinkansen. (Departing at 01 parts of Urasa Station 13:00 and departing at 13:58)

 

A summary: I'll enjoy event Onsen fully by winter Uonuma city!

I introduced the unique festival with the fantastic deep red straw fire on on the snow-white snow "Hyakuhatto" this time.

The Onsen and the sweets I'd like to enjoy carefully are plenty in winter Uonuma city as well as a festival!

It's also charm it makes connetions, and that you can go on the Shinkansen and a train in a little less than 2 hours from Tokyo station.
